Americanism Elementary School Poster Contest

Additional Information

Americanism Elementary School Poster Contest

The National Society of the Sons of the American Revolution (SAR) invites all 3rd, 4th, and 5th-grade students interested in the American Revolution to participate in the Americanism Poster Contest.

This contest is open to:

  • Public school students
  • Parochial school students
  • Home-schooled students
  • Scouting members
  • Children of the American Revolution (C.A.R.)

Young artists with enthusiasm for art, American history, or creative expression can submit their posters to their local SAR chapter for competition. Winning posters may advance through state competition and ultimately be judged and awarded at the national level during the annual SAR Congress in June.

Who Can Enter?

  • 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade students
  • Participants from other organizations must be of equivalent age
  • Students from all entry points (school, homeschool, scouting, C.A.R.) are judged equally

Purpose of the Contest

  • Designed to support teachers who cover the Colonial and Revolutionary period in grades 3–5
  • Encourages students to combine historical knowledge with artistic creativity

Contest Guidelines

  • All entries judged on the same basis regardless of school type or organization
  • A complete set of rules and applications (for both students and sponsoring SAR members) is available below
  • Application deadlines vary by local Chapter – students should check with their local SAR chapter for details

Rotating Theme

The contest theme rotates each year depending on whether the academic year ends in an even or odd number:

  • Even-numbered years: Revolutionary War Events
  • Odd-numbered years: Revolutionary War Person or Persons

✨ This year’s theme will depend on the school calendar — be sure to confirm before starting your project!

More Information

A complete set of rules, along with the application, can be found below. Please note that local application deadline dates may vary. Interested applicants should contact their local SAR member listed below for further details.
